Early Life of Mirabai Chanu
Mirabai was born in Nongpok Kakching in 1994. It is a small village in Manipur state. She belongs to a modest family where financial struggle made her journey quite challenging. Therefore, hard work was the only way to earn money and live.
Although she used to carry firewood bundles from the nearby forests, she was unknowingly building strength for her upcoming sporting career. Initially, she was very inspired by her fellow weightlifter from Manipur, Kunjarani Devi. Because of her inspiring journey, she eventually developed an interest in this sport.
She started practicing from a very young age at the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) Imphal centre. With her determination, great techniques, and strength, she impressed the coaches quickly.
