Sam Bahadur, a period drama film, bravely battled against Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, the box office heavyweight, on its opening Monday. Will it be sufficient, though? The Vicky Kaushal film’s box office receipts took a significant hit, with early estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk putting its total at Rs 3.50 cr. This marks a drop of 60 percent from Sunday’s haul. Sam Bahadur had managed to hit the double-digit figure on Sunday when it touched Rs 10 cr mark. Sam Bahadur had an overall occupancy of 22.65 percent on day four, as it neared the Rs 30 crore mark in India.
As per reports, the advance booking of Animal looks very impressive. Across India, the movie has reportedly garnered a gross of Rs 13.95 crore on the first day itself. On the other hand, Sam Bahadur has reportedly collected Rs 1.25 crore on the first day of its advance booking.

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Sam Bahadur is based on the life of India’s first field marshal, Sam Manekshaw. This is the second time that Vicky Kaushal has teamed up with Meghna Gulzar for a project. Earlier, they had worked together in the film Raazi, also featuring Alia Bhatt. Sanya Malhotra plays the character of Silloo Manekshaw while Fatima Sana Shaikh plays the character of Indira Gandhi in the film.
Challenges Sam bahadur had to face:
The challenge for Sam Bahadur will be to at least maintain its pace and not see drastic drop from here on, which can be a task in itself as the film has been hit by mixed reviews and is facing a tough competitor at the box office – Animal. Sam Bahadur is looking at an estimated total of Rs 37 cr to at the end of week one, which wouldn’t be ideal. The second weekend will become crucial to achieve a respectable lifetime total. Both Animal and Sam Bahadur will have a 20-day free run at the box office, before the arrival of two bigges — Shah Rukh Khan led comedy drama Dunki and Prabhas starrer actioner Salaar.
The Meghna Gulzar directorial follows the life of India’s first Field Marshal, Sam Manekshaw. This was Vicky Kaushal’s third theatrical release of the year, after the box office hit Zara Hatke Zara Bachke and the disappointing The Great Indian Family. Sam Bahadur also stars Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
‘ANIMAL’ Expected To Do Better Than Sam bahadur
Akshaye Rathi said, “It’s a scenario that will make you feel like a sense of deja vu. Earlier also, we saw ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘OMG 2’ clashing on August 15. Both were films that came with a lot of anticipation, and they were very different from each other. Both of them eventually did well. It is a similar scenario here. ‘Animal’ will open like a tsunami, while ‘Sam Bahadur’ is a film that will bring about a lot of credibility and dignity. ‘Animal’ might have a bigger opening than ‘Sam Bahadur’, but it can get better with good word-of-mouth.”
The belief held by Ramesh Bala is that the Sandeep Reddy Vanga film will gross more money than the Meghna Gulzar-directed picture. “‘Animal’ will have better traction than ‘Sam Bahadur’ because of the genre. It is a mass-oriented, youth commercial film. ‘Sam Bahadur’ is more of a niche pattern movie. ‘Animal’ will certainly do better than ‘Sam Bahadur’ at the box office too. Already the advance bookings reflect that as Ranbir’s film is way ahead. It will open at a much higher level,” he stated.
Actors wordings for each other:
Ranbir and Vicky have been very appreciative of each other’s work in the past and have shared screen space in Rajkumar Hirani’s 2018 film Sanju where they played best friends.
