On February 8, 2024, in Banbhoolpura, petrol bombs were thrown at police officers, employees of Haldwani Municipal Corporation, and members of the media following the administration’s demolition of an illegal madarsa constructed on encroached government land. The mob used stones in their first attack, according to Nainital DM Vandana Singh, who told the media on Friday, February 9. They then used petrol bombs in their second attack, throwing them inside the police station.
Reportedly, rioters took gasoline out of motorcycles that were parked on the streets and used it to make gasoline bombs. A parked motorcycle is next to a lighter and a bottle filled with gasoline, as seen in a TV9 report. The footage showed a large number of bottles that scrap pickers had left lying around the road. Rioters used these bottles to make petrol bombs. After the illegal construction was demolished, these bombs were hurled at the police and municipal corporation teams, along with their vehicles.

According to police, ten individuals were taken into custody on Monday in relation to the unrest that broke out in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, following the demolition of an illegally constructed madrassa.
Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prahlad Narayan Meena informed reporters that with these arrests, the total number of people detained in relation to the incident on February 8 has reached 58. Arbaz is among those detained on Monday; he is suspected of providing the materials needed to make the petrol bombs that the rioters threw at police officers and municipal corporation employees.
He was found in possession of nine liters of gasoline, according to the SSP
A search was underway to find the remaining 12 of the 16 accused listed in the three FIRs filed following the altercations, according to the police officer.
In the Banbhoolpura area of Haldwani, violence broke out on February 8 in response to the demolition of an illegally constructed madrassa. Locals attacked police and municipal employees with stones and petrol bombs, forcing many police officers to take cover at a police station, which the mob later set on fire.
In addition, the police have detained Mohammed Shoaib son of Saeed Ahmed, Anas son of Yasin, Ayaan son of Akil Ahmed, Arbaaz son of Haseen Ahmed, Shahraj Hussain son of Ashfaq Hussain, Mohammed Wasim son of Abdul Ghafar, and Nazim son of Mohammad Umar who were involved in causing disturbance, arson, and stone-pelting during the violence.
Nine liters of gasoline stored in two jugs were found in the home of accused Arbaaz, and the police also found the cartridges that the PAC jawan had stolen from accused Shuaib during the course of the investigation. SSP Prahlad Narayan Meena revealed the situation, stating that Arbaaz, the accused, had provided fuel for the production of petrol bombs.
Mobile videos and CCTV footage are also being examined by the police looking into the violence. A lot of teams are working hard to identify and apprehend those who are suspected.
The violent mastermind Abdul Malik and Ijaz’s home has been seized
Abdul Malik, the mastermind behind the violence, and his son Abdul Mueed are escaping. Malik’s home is under police attachment. On Sunday, the police also secured accused Ajaz’s home after they did so with Malik. Aziz continues to flee.
If police sources are to be believed, Aziz is being sought after by multiple teams. In addition to surveillance, Aziz’s capture is being sought with the assistance of sources.
