From renewable energy infrastructure to electric vehicles and smart cities, aluminium plays an important role in today’s growth. Behind this metal is the bauxite, and at the heart of India’s bauxite story stands Vedanta Lanjigarh refinery, Odisha.

The Lanjigarh Refinery- A Story of Commitment

Vedanta Limited operates a 2 MTPA (million tonnes per annum) alumina refinery in Lanjigarh since 2007 and an associated 90 MW captive power plant at Lanjigarh. Though in all these years, despite having a rich bauxite reserve in its vicinity, Vedanta was never able to operationalise a permanent bauxite mine, and was left with no other choice but to keep the plant operational through imports and third-party supplies. This eventually resulted in higher costs, with challenges in raw material procurement and increased operational expenses.

Vedanta, being a visionary company, backed by strategic leadership, continues its operations while focusing on community development.
