Mukhtar Ansari, a former gangster who became a politician, passed away late Friday night in an Uttar Pradesh hospital from cardiac arrest.
Around 8:45 p.m., Ansari passed out in the district jail and was sent to the Banda hospital. He had a heart arrest at the Rani Durgavati Medical College and passed away while receiving treatment.
Matter of Poison
Mukhtar Ansari’s family has claimed that he was poisoned while incarcerated in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh since 2005. Mukhtar claimed that while he was incarcerated, a poison was delivered to him in his food. This is the second time it has happened. It was around forty days ago that he was also administered poison. Furthermore, on March 19, he was exposed to the poison once more, which made his condition worse,” his brother Afzal Ansari was cited by PTI as saying.
Umar, the son of Mukhtar Ansari, also claimed that his father consumed poisoned food and threatened to take the matter to court. “We have stated this previously, and we will continue to say it today. He was poisoned during supper on March 19. We fully believe that the judiciary will be our next step,” he declared.
Earlier this month, Mukhtar Ansari’s attorney had claimed in court that his life was in danger while he was being held in Banda jail and that he was being fed a deadly chemical in addition to his food.
A number of politicians have demanded an investigation into the claims made by the feared gangster’s family, including Chief Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajadi Party, Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD, Asaduddin Owaisi of AIMIM, and Mayawati of the Bahujan Samaj Party.
Following his passing, the hospital’s security was increased, and state-wide prohibition orders were put in place to preserve law and order.
Mukhtar Ansari: who was he?
The sixty-three-year-old Mukhtar Ansari served as a Mau Sadar MLA five times between 1996 and 2022. He was nominated twice by the Bahujan Samaj Party, twice by the Independent Party, and once by Quami Ekta Dal.
Since 2005, the gangster-turned-politician has been imprisoned in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. There were more than sixty active criminal cases against him.
Since September 2022, Mukhtar Ansari has been found guilty in eight counts by various Uttar Pradesh courts and has been detained at the Banda jail. His name was included in the Uttar Pradesh Police’s list of 66 gangsters from the previous year.
The Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party, which was then in an alliance with the Samajwadi Party, was represented by Abbas Ansari, Mukhtar Ansari’s eldest son, who won the same assembly seat in 2022.
Demise Ritual
After Mukhtar Ansari passed away, his corpse was transferred to the Banda Medical College Hospital in Uttar Pradesh for a post-mortem. His admission to a Banda hospital on Tuesday as a result of complaints of abdominal pain marked the start of the series of events that ultimately led to his death. He was discharged and then sent to the Rani Durgawati Medical College in Uttar Pradesh. He was declared deceased on Thursday after being returned to the hospital in an unconscious state following a heart arrest.
