When Rinku was in need of employment, his brother brought him to a location where he was asked to work as a sweeper. Upon returning home, he informed his mother that he would prefer to concentrate on cricket over such jobs.
He was on the verge of becoming a sweeper, but he persevered because he wanted to succeed in cricket. All of the money he made from playing cricket was used to settle loans his family had taken out from different sources. He declared, “I will contribute to my elder brother’s wedding, save some for my sister’s wedding,” after landing an IPL contract in 2018. And my family and I will relocate to a nice home.”

On October 12, 1997, in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India, Rinku Singh was born. Rinku Singh hails from a low-income family. While his brother operates an auto-rickshaw, his father works as an LPG gas delivery man. He is one of five siblings’ children, the third born.

But Rinku’s life wasn’t easy, and in order to support his family, he left school after failing the ninth grade. He declined an offer to clean a coaching center, driven to alleviate his family’s financial burden while pursuing his love of cricket.
Later, in an interview, he discussed this and stated,
“Your father isn’t providing for you, so why don’t you get a job?” my mother used to say to me. I considered applying for a job at a nearby coaching center to help support my family. I went wearing a shirt and pants because I thought I would get a good job. However, I received an offer to sweep. They said that if you come and sweep early in the morning, nobody will find out that you are doing this. That didn’t sit well with me, so I decided to turn my attention to cricket and left. My efforts have paid off because I worked very hard.
His cricket journey:
He played in the 2012 DPS Aligarh Cricket World Cup, despite his father’s opposition and the fact that he used to beat him with a stick to get him to quit playing. Teams from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka participated in the tournament; he finished with 354 runs and 8 wickets. His parents were present at the tournament in Delhi, where he excelled and won the Man-of-the-Series award along with a Motor Bike. His father became his staunchest advocate and never discouraged him from playing cricket after this accomplishment.

In March 2014, at the age of sixteen, Rinku Singh began playing List A cricket for Uttar Pradesh Cricket. He became the match’s top scorer with an impressive 83 runs in his debut game. November 2016 saw him make his team debut in a first-class setting as he kept up his impressive play. It was evident that he possessed exceptional talent after he scored four fifties in his first seven List-A games.
2018 saw him crush Tripura in the Vijay Hazare Trophy match, hitting a scorching 91 not out of just 44 balls. With four centuries and three fifties, he scored 953 runs at an average of 105.88 in ten games, good for third place overall in run scoring.

After participating in the Ramadan T20 Tournament in Abu Dhabi without the BCCI’s approval, he ran afoul of the organization. He was consequently barred for three months. He continued to play for Deccan Gladiators despite the suspension, and in the team’s tournament-winning performance against New Medical Center, he scored an astounding 104 runs off just 58 balls.

Rinku Singh’s strong domestic cricket performances earned him a 10 Lakh selection by Kings XI Punjab in 2017. It was a major acknowledgment of his talent even though he was not able to compete in the tournament. When his father learned that his son had been picked for the IPL team, he quit his job as an LPG gas distributor.
The 2018 Indian Premier League team, Kolkata Knight Riders, took notice of him after he scored 91 runs in just 31 balls during a game. He was purchased for Rs 80 lakhs, which is four times his starting price of Rs 20 lakhs, because they were so impressed. His choice had his whole family ecstatic.
The Kolkata Knight Riders acquired him for a price exceeding his base price of Rs 20 lakhs in the 2022 Indian Premier League mega-auction, this time for Rs 55 lakhs.
When he hit five consecutive sixes in the final over bowled by Yash Dayal to help KKR defeat Gujarat Titans in an IPL 2023 match, he shot to fame. 28 runs had to be scored in the final five balls for KKR.
