In the upcoming Test matches against England, star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will become the first Indian bowler to take 100 or more wickets. Last week, Ashwin became the second bowler from India to take 500+ wickets in Test cricket. To reach the milestone, he needs to take one wicket in the fourth Test.

Legendary Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin created history on Friday, February 16, by becoming the second-fastest bowler in Test cricket history and the fastest bowler from India in general. On the second day of the third Test match in Rajkot, he eliminated England’s opener Zak Crawley to reach the milestone. With 501 wickets in 98 Test matches for India thus far, Ashwin is about to reach yet another significant mark. The 37-year-old needs just one wicket to make history as the first Indian bowler to 100 wickets in Test matches against England. Ashwin has amassed 99 wickets in 22 Test matches against the English team.

In the second Test, which was held in Visakhapatnam, Ashwin broke the record for most wickets taken by India in Test matches against England. He broke the 95-wicket record held by Bhagwath Chandrasekhar in that match.
In the fourth Test, which is scheduled to take place at the J SCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi, if Ashwin is able to dismiss at least one English batsman, he will become the first Indian and, after James Anderson, the second bowler overall to take 100 or more wickets in Tests between India and England.

In addition, Ashwin has the ability to surpass a few Test records that Anil Kumble held for India. To surpass the former Indian captain’s record for most wickets claimed in Test matches held in India, he needs to take three wickets. Kumble had taken 350 wickets in 63 Test matches in India during his playing career, while Ashwin had taken 348 wickets in 58 matches thus far.
In Test cricket, Ashwin has the ability to surpass Kumble’s record for most five-wicket hauls for India. In 132 Test matches for India, Kumble claimed 35 five-wicket hauls, while Ashwin had 34 instances of dismissing five or more batsmen in a single innings.

Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja established the most successful bowling combination in Indian history, sharing over 500 wickets between them. Jadeja provides a pleasing contrast to Ashwin’s range of emotions; he is steady, quick, and chipping away. Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh, the pair they replaced, were somewhat similar in temperament.

Ashwin’s total is second only to Kumble’s among Indians. A few years ago, he said to an interviewer, “I love Kumble’s.” 619 wickets are held by him. I will be extremely grateful if I reach 618, and that will be my final Test match.”

It’s a peek into the mind of this fascinating man.
