The actress met the legendary cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, her late husband, when she was rising to great success in the business.
Tagore’s mother was of Assamese Hindu descent and came from the Barua family, while her father was a member of the aristocratic Bengali Hindu Tagore family, who were distantly related to the Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Gitindranath was the grandson of renowned painter Gaganendranath Tagore, whose first cousin was the laureate’s father, Gunendranath. In actuality, Tagore’s mother, Latika Barua (née Tagore), was the granddaughter of Dwijendranath Tagore, the brother of Rabindranath Tagore, and thus her closest relative.
